Concordia University, NE names Spring 2014 term honors students

Concordia University, Nebraska named 223 students to its honors list for the spring 2014 semester. The top 25 percent of all undergraduate students who complete at least 12 credit hours qualify for the honors list. UCLA School of Law graduation includes Local Graduate

Trevor Boeckmann of Vinton, graduated from the UCLA School of Law on Friday, May 16, 2014.  Trevor is a 2007 graduate of Vinton-Shellsburg High School and he completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Northern Iowa.  He has accepted a position with the Alliance for Justice in Washington, DC.  Trevor is the son of Tom and Lisa Boeckmann and grandson of Forrest and Glenyce Bolte, all of Vinton.

Meet the Artists: Angie Klinzing

Angie Klinzing creates a variety of art projects, and especially loves working with beads. Angie Klinzing is a bead artist, and one of the members of the Vinton Guild of Fine Arts who is preparing for the June 21 Art Festival in Celebration Park.  Angie shares this information about her life and her love of art:   I have been married to Bart Klinzing since July 2000. I have one son, Cole.  I have lived in this area all my life.

Meet the Artist: Barbara Floyd-Campbell

Barbara Floyd-Campbell has sold hundreds of paintings; her work will be seen at the Art Festival Barbara Floyd-Campbell is a long-time artist whose work has been seen in many art shows in Iowa and Colorado. She is one of the local artists preparing for the June 21 Art Festival.   Barbara shares the following information about her love of art:   I have been creating art, beginning at a very young age and took art classes all through school.

AmeriCorps NCCC Class 20 Corps Member Spotlight: Emily Wilmoth

By: Sarah Williams Emily Wilmoth, from Fresno, California is serving on team Cedar 3 in AmeriCorps NCCC Class 20. She arrived in Vinton on February 11 to start her 10-month service term. Cedar 3 is made up of eight people from across the country who will serve together around the Midwest. Emily  says,” I went to New Orleans to volunteer with Habitat for Humanity and I loved it.

Meet the Artists: Gloria Orcutt

Today's featured artist is Gloria Lundvall Orcutt. Gloria is one of many artists who will participate in the June 21 Arts Festival being organized by the new Vinton Guild of Fine Arts. She is retired and lives in Vinton. "I started painting in 2003 by taking an adult education class in oil painting. I liked it continued taking classes for over two years," she said.

Nathan Horst graduates with cum laude from Creighton University College of Arts

Nathan Horst of Blairstown, graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in Physics from the College of Arts and Sciences during Creighton University's commencement ceremony on May 17, 2014, at the CenturyLink Center Omaha. University President Timothy R. Lannon, S.J., resided. Lannon, a 1973 graduate of the University, is the first alum to serve as president of Creighton.

Mount Mercy University recognizes outstanding achievements at Honors Convocation

The following student(s) received recognition for outstanding achievement at Mount Mercy University during Honors Convocation this spring: From Atkins: Sydney Wallenfelsz, The Dale Harrison Management Outstanding Student Award Urbana: Lisa Coleen Wita, The Accelerated Student of the Year Award and Vinton: Brady Thomas Gerber, "Honor Cords - Graduating ""With Distinction"" in the Honors Program" AND Who's Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges Over 100 students were recognized during the ceremony for excelling in academics and extra-curricular activities while demonstrating leadership and personal growth during their time at Mount Mercy.

ECC announces 2014 Spring Term Dean's List

One hundred fifty-one students have been named to the Spring 2014 (January to May) Dean's List at Ellsworth Community College. To be eligible for the Dean's List, students must have taken 12 or more credit hours during the semester (a full-time class load) and have earned at least a 3.5 grade point average while attending ECC classes in Iowa Falls or online.
